"Buddy" Larry McGinnis, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. He lived in Alexis NC and was proud of his small town. He was born In Lincoln Co. to the late James and Margie McClure McGinnis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the mother of his children Kay McGinnis and by his spouse Shirley Kanipe McGinnis; his daughter, Dana Lynn McGinnis and his son in law, Kevin Costner.
Buddy was a proud veteran who loved his country. He served in the United States Air National Guard for over 30 years and retired as a Master Sergeant. Buddy worked for Duke Power as a property manager and surveyor. Buddy retired and went to work at Target for many years to remain working. He enjoyed hard work and appreciated a job well done. Farming and raising cattle was a passion of his also ,his farm gave him joy and purpose, especially on hay cutting days. You could always find Buddy at the Corner store in Alexis , hanging out with friends in the morning or behind his house tending to his farm. He also loved to travel. He was a pilot, and spent many years at Laney's Airport in Maiden, living his passion of flying planes.
Those left to cherish his memories include his three children, Buddy Lewis (Olivia), Sherry Clemmer (Michael), Brian McGinnis. His grandchildren include Brandon Costner (Haley),Steven McGinnis, Lily McGinnis, and Cody McGinnis. Great -grandchildren include, Cason Lee, Blakely Costner, Luke Costner and Ellie Mae McGinnis. He also had a special friend Lola Rodgers whom enjoyed spending time with.
The family will greet guests from 11:00-12:00 this Thursday April 25, 2024 at Mt Zion Baptist Church in Alexis. The funeral service will be held directly after the receiving at 12:00 p.m. The graveside will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
