Gene Arthur Miller, 78, passed away on February 23, 2021. Gene was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 23, 1942 and was a lifelong resident of Gaston County. He was preceded in death by his parents Chandler McCoy Miller and Leona Brooks Miller of Stanley, and brothers Von Miller, Jack Miller, Mack Miller, Truman Miller, and sister Shirley Wiggins. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Elizabeth Dellinger Miller of Stanley, NC; son and daughter-in-law John Chandler Miller (Samantha) of Stanley; daughter and son-in-law Mary Brooks Miller Sallah (and Mohammed Sallah) of Stanley; grandchildren Mackenzie Brooks Miller, Madison McClure Miller, and Macy Jo Miller of Stanley and Regine Loren Sallah (Berlin, Maryland), Elizabeth Yandeh Mea Sallah and Betty Brooks Ann Sallah of the Stanley; Brothers, Bobby Miller of Little Rock, AR, William Miller of Stanley, Larry Miller of Stanley; Sisters Betty Duckworth of Stanley, Janice Bradsher of Charlotte, NC, Sandra Godin of Springfield, MA and Donna Markus of Fort Mill, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gene was a graduate of Belmont Abbey College. He served as President of Miller Chitwood Skidmore CPA Firm for 48 years with multiple locations in the Charlotte region. He spent countless time in support of Gaston County through his work with the RM Thompson Foundation, serving as a county commissioner, and his contributions to Belmont Abbey College as a Trustee and active Alumnus. In particular, Gene helped establish the J.P. Smith Scholarship for students majoring in accounting.
While he played for the legendary Coach Al McGuire at Belmont Abby College, Gene was a life-long runner and golfer. Gene was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Stanley Masonic lodge 713, Scottish Rite of Charlotte, and Oasis Shrine.
He will be missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at 2:00pm at the Basilica at Belmont Abbey College. The service will also be available virtually by 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 7 at www.woodlawnfuneral.org.
