Bill Nixon, 86, died at home on Wednesday, October 16, 2019.
Bill is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lela Burgin Nixon; his son, Doug (Sarah) of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; his daughters, Valeria (Cookie) Nixon of St. Petersburg, FL and Janet (John) Lawson of Jamestown, NC; 3 grandsons, Brian (Christine) Nixon of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and Seth and Alec Lawson of Jamestown, NC; his brother Tommy (Carol) Nixon.
Bill was born and raised in Denver, where his family was known for their tomato and strawberry fields. Bill grew up surrounded by lifelong friends, aunts, uncles, cousins and co-workers. He was the son of the late Perry T. and Jessie Cherry Nixon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Kathleen (J.D.) Wallin and Dorothy (Ned) McCall; aunts; uncles and cousins.
He had a storied career as a master car salesman for over 30 years and retired as general sales manager. Even though he retired, people would call for advice on their cars' noises or wanting advice on purchasing one, and Bill was always available. If you asked anyone to describe Bill, they would say he loved to tell stories and make people laugh. He was such a congenial gentleman that was accepting of everyone.
A memorial service to celebrate Bill's life will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday, October 18, 2019 at Unity Presbyterian Church, 8210 Unity Church Rd, Denver, NC 28037. Pastor David Bonnema will officiate. The family will visit with friends after the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Unity Presbyterian Church, Hospice & Palliative Care of Lincoln County, 900 Donita Dr., Lincolnton, NC 28092 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
