Charles Michael Painter, 69, of Belmont, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at his home. He was born in Mecklenburg County, son of the late Maggie Lee Thrower and Richard Milton Painter, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Richard Milton Painter, Jr. Charles was a lifetime member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church Belmont and also a lifetime member of the Gaston County Marine Corp League where he was named Marine of the year in 2016. He also served 28 years in the NC Army National Guard. He enjoyed spending time on the golf course, woodworking, classic cars, and working in his garden. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 49 years, Susan Cooper Painter; children Jacqueline Painter, Jennifer McGill (Justin), and Michelle Gilleland (Scott); grandchildren Hannah McGill, Owen Gilleland, and Courtney Rankin; a sister Sharon Anderson; a sister-in-law Cheryl Painter and two special nephews Tim and Todd Painter. A service to celebrate his life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 120 Belmont Mt. Holly Road, Belmont. The family will greet guests for one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mount Holly, with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
