“Maw Maw” Herms, 86, entered into the presence of her Lord on May 24, 2018 after a month long stay between Novant Health and Stanley Total Living.
Daphne was a native of Gaston County and the daughter of the late Clyde Thomas and Clara Willard Thomas. A Christian who loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Daphne was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church, Mt. Holly for 44 years. She was loving, kind, compassionate and dearly loved by her husband, children, grandchildren, church family and friends. Daphne worked in textiles and retired from Carolina Mills. Daphne is survived by her children: one son, William “Willie” Herms and wife Diana of Mt. Holly; three daughters, Jeanette Herms of Belmont, Patricia “Pat” May of Gastonia, Sherry Arrowood and husband Rev. Randy Arrowood of Belmont; grandchildren, Crystal Herms, Jeffery Arrowood, Jon May, Natalie and Curtis Herms; three nephews, David Hubbard of Pickens, S.C., Steve Hubbard of Belmont, Terry Parnell and wife Martha of Gastonia and one niece, Donna Evans and husband Paul; two sisters-in-law, Pearl Lunsford of Dallas and Betty Hermes of Gastonia; one brother-in-law, Vernon Parnell of Gastonia. Additional family members: Vicki Harvell of Stanley and Cory Haas of Dallas, who helped with her care during her illness and her faithful sidekick for the last 2 ½ years Scooter Arrowood. In addition to her parents, Daphne was preceded in death by her husband William Henry Herms and sisters, Bobbie Hubbard, Lucille Parnell and son-in-law Richard May. Funeral service conducted by the Reverend Randy Arrowood will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 28th at the First Free Will Baptist Church. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 5:30 p.m. Interment will be Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. in Hillcrest Gardens.
