David Kenneth Burgess, Sr., 73, died November 1, 2017 at the Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas. He was born in Gaston County, son of the late James Oliver Burgess and Hazel Wilson Burgess Curry, and was preceded in death by two brothers Ron and Donnie Burgess.
He retired from Duke Energy, had served in the US Air Force, and was a member of Alexis Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Mickey Spargo Burgess, a son David Burgess, Jr and wife Christy of Alexis, a daughter Melissa Ward and husband Chris of Belmont, 4 grandchildren Kirsten, Mia, Carson, and Samantha; a sister Sheree Hall and husband Willie of Gastonia, and a brother James Burgess of Alexis.
The funeral service conducted by Reverend Dr. Sandy Marks and Reverend Dickie Spargo will be held 12 Noon Saturday at Alexis Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
