Ellen Hicks Setzer, 95, of Gastonia, died December 17, 2017 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia. She was born in Rutherford County, daughter of the late Charles Boston Hicks, Sr. and Ola Jane Arrowood Hicks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Cyril Robinson Setzer; two sisters Jeanette Curtis and Beatrice Teague; and two brothers Charles Reid Hicks and James Robert Hicks. She was a longtime member of Lowell Church of God. Those left to cherish her memory include her children Cyril Rodney Setzer and wife Jane of Lincolnton, Cyril Timothy Setzer and wife Jalayne of Blacksburg, S.C., Cyril Stephen Setzer and wife Lora of Blacksburg, S.C., Teresa Kathleen Setzer of Hickory, Sandra Elaine Setzer of Gastonia, Belinda Jane Smith and husband Vaughn of Jacksonville, FL, and Beth Maria Setzer of Gastonia.; 16 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; and one brother C.B. Hicks, Jr. A funeral service conducted by the Rev. Joe Heffner will be held 2 p.m. Friday, December 22 at Lowell Church of God, 804 W. 1st Street in Lowell. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service also at the church. Burial will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont.
