Eloise Howard Murphy

Eloise Howard Murphy, 86, passed away peacefully at home March 1, 2018. She was born in Spartanburg, SC on May 24, 1931 to parents George Burce and Georgie Self Howard.  She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 62 years, Lawrence Ray “Bud” Murphy who was her childhood sweetheart; son, David Murphy; brothers Roy Howard, Varner Howard; sisters Helen Howard, Ruby Carpenter, Margaret Spencer, Buford “Boots” Haithcox, Vergie Nosil.  Eloise is survived by daughter, Carolyn Summey and husband Randy; son, John Murphy; all of Stanley; grandchildren Ashley Murphy, Kevin Murphy, Barry Summey and wife Kristy, Derek Summey; great grandchildren, Patrick and Luke Murphy, Levi and Ben Summey, Houston, Carson, and Bryson Summey; daughter-in-law Vicki Handsel Murphy; brother Troy Howard of Matthews, NC; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend Ruth Anderson.  Bud and Eloise adopted in their hearts: Bennie Gerner, wife Judy, Reverend Kristen Gerner-Vaughn, Michael Bradley, Page Jones, Madison Lynch, and the late Jonathan Gerner.  Eloise was a homemaker a caregiver to many and a former cub scout den mother. She was an avid gardener and loved birdwatching, camping, cooking , quilting, sewing, crafting and most of all, spending time with her family. She was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Stanley where she volunteered in various areas.  The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Catawba Regional Hospice, Home Instead Senior Care, Kathy Griggs and Terry Mercer.  The funeral service conducted by the Reverend Kristen Gerner-Vaughn, Reverend Dr. Danny Penny and Reverend Charles Jessen will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Stanley Pentecostal Holiness Church, 113 East Parkwood St. Stanley, NC. Entombment will follow in the family mausoleum at Stanley Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00-3:00 on Sunday.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at Catawba Regional Hospice 3975 Robinson Rd.
