Elsie Lorene Beaty Huffman, wife of the late Murl Alfonzo Huffman, Sr. of Morristown, Tennessee, and daughter of the late John William Beaty and Emma Fisher Beaty of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away on October 22, 2019. She is survived by her loving children, daughter Pam Huffman Gatewood and son-in-law Marvin Gatewood of Acworth, Georgia; daughter Jackie Huffman of Morristown, Tennessee; and son Al Huffman and daughter-in-law Jean Huffman of Durham, North Carolina; her four grandchildren Rob Smithers & wife, Jill, Melanie Huffman McKee & husband, Kyle, Audra Huffman, and Casey Huffman & wife, Holly; and her brother Bob Beaty, sister-in-law, Jane Beaty, sister-in-law, Darlene Huffman Childers, Roy Holder & wife Peggy, and sister-in-law, Doris Holder Campbell, and various nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by siblings Margaret Beaty Thomas, Olin Beaty, Dora Beaty Bowman, Harry Beaty, and Ben Beatty.
Born the 2nd of April 1929 in Charlotte, North Carolina, she attended Paw Creek High School. She married Murl Huffman and as a married couple they lived in several states, following Murl's career as an optician, in North Carolina, Florida, and Tennessee. She worked a few years in store security at Loveman's Department Store in Chattanooga, Tennessee. After her husband Murl's death, she relocated to Durham, North Carolina, for several years to be near family before recently relocating to Atlanta, Georgia, where she was a resident of the Hidden Lakes Assisted Living Center in Canton. She was an active member of several Baptist churches during her life including the Manley Baptist Church, in Morristown, Tennessee, and Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina.
She was an avid sports fan who will be remembered for her love of Tennessee Volunteer football and Duke Blue Devil Men's basketball.
A visitation and funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 375 Woodlawn Avenue, Mount Holly, NC 28120 on Friday, October 25th with visitation at 2 pm and service following at 3 pm. A internment service will commence on Saturday October 26th at 2 pm at the Jefferson Memorial Gardens, 812 East Broadway South, Jefferson City, TN 37760.
