Emily Perry Summey, age 89, entered eternal life on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018. Emily was born in Wadesboro, NC on August 19, 1928. The daughter of Abel Perry and Mildred Babb, she was the sixth of seven children. The family moved to Mt Holly, NC in the early 1940s where she resided until the later years of her life.
Emily married Kelly “Jack” Summey in 1947 and together they had three children. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack, her eldest son Terry, her parents and five siblings, Elise, Dick, Shuler, Bill, and Lib. She is survived by her beloved sister and lifelong best friend Stella of Hamlet, NC. She is also survived by her daughter Jacquelyn (husband Robert) of Charlotte, NC and son Kelly (wife Janet) of Reno, Nevada; as well as six grandchildren: Kelly (husband Billy), Conor (wife Ashley), Kevin (wife Eliana), Brian (wife Alyssa), Daniel (fiance’ Vicky) and Sean (wife Tamera). Emily leaves a legacy of the importance of family in her twenty-four great grandchildren. Being surrounded by children gave her much joy.
Emily was a devout Christian practicing her faith at Mt Holly United Methodist Church, and later at Queen of the Apostles Catholic Church. She and Jack were a mainstay of the community through their family business, Summey Drug Store. Additionally, she was the best Bridge player around. Emily will be greatly missed but all who love her take comfort in knowing she is now beholding the face of God.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians (Belmont Abbey) in Belmont, NC.
