Gary Abernathy Obituary

Gary Dean Abernathy, 62, of Stanley, passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018. He was born in Gaston County. He was preceded in death by his father, "Sonny" Abernathy; a grandson, Jason Altman; and a great-granddaughter, Emily Altman.

A member of Revival Tabernacle, Stanley, Gary had a wonderful sense of humor and never seemed to meet a stranger. Gary loved his family, his Lord, and his church family immensely.  

He is survived by his wife, Melody Sprinkle Abernathy; his mother, Shirley Hoyle; his son, Dakota Eli Abernathy; his step-children, Candy Marchand (Raymond), and David Altman, III (Vicky); his brother, Richard Abernathy; six grandchildren, Julia Marchand, Alex Marchand, Tiffany Garcia, Jessie Funderburk, and Cristopher Altman; his great-grandchildren, Lucas Garcia, Milli Altman, and Jason Altman; and his K-9 companion of 14 years, Chico.

A service to celebrate Gary's life will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Revival Tabernacle, Stanley with Pastor John D. Mayberry officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Thursday at the church with the funeral to follow. Condolence messages may be sent to the family by visiting www.woodlawnfuneral.org.
