Gladys Mae Freeland "Sam" Bailey, 76, went to be with the Lord on December 16 at Robin Johnson Hospice House surrounded by her family. She was born in Swain County, daughter of the late Guy Ernest and Ethel Marie Winchester Freeland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Louise Lindsey, John Henry Freeland and Dena Helms. She was employed by Gaston Memorial Hospital for 25 years. She always filled her home with music and loved gospel bluegrass music on Sunday mornings. She also enjoyed her Facebook friends.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Jerry Cecil Bailey; two children, James Daniel Bailey and wife, Paige of Gastonia, and Pamela Jean Boseman and husband, Dillard of Mount Holly; two brothers, James Freeland and wife, Elizabeth of Ocala, FL, and Joe Freeland and wife, Lois of Jonesboro, TN; five grandchildren, McKenzie Ghantt, Heather Tickel, Jonathan Boseman, and Payton and Payne Bailey; one great-grandchild, Lauren Ghantt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Bailey will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly with Pastor Vernon Cope officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mount Holly. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home.
