James "J.R." Russell Ollis

James Russell “J.R.” Ollis, 83, of Gastonia, died Sunday, July 8 at the W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury.  He was born in Gaston County to the late Ethel Propst and Charlie Ollis.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers David and Nelson Ollis and a sister Linda Green.  James served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Virginia; his children Cathy Williams (Sammy), James Ollis (Sheary), Tim Ollis (Lisa); a brother Chuck Ollis (Sue); six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.  A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held 3:00 pm Friday, July 13 at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 pm prior to the service at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly with a procession to the cemetery for the graveside service following.
