Lawrence Hovis Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" Conrad Hovis, 80, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2019. He was born in Spartanburg, SC, son of the late Claude A. Hovis, Sr. and Eula Garrison Hovis. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and had retired from Duke Energy. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Stanley where he served as a Deacon, participated in mission trips with the NC Baptist Men's Association. He was also a member of the Gaston Agricultural, Mechanical, Textile Restoration Association (GAMTRA) where he enjoyed participating in the annual Gaston County Cotton Ginning Days.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sabra Young Hovis; two sons, Jeff and wife, Lisa of Mount Holly and Scott and his wife, Kris of Mount Holly; two brothers, Claude and Leon of Dallas, NC; four grandchildren, Jacob, Shelby, Heather and Savannah Hovis; and a great-grandson, Chandler Hovis.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Hovis will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019 at the First Baptist Church, Stanley. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Sunday at the church. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 409 Old Mt Holly Rd, Stanley, NC 28164.
