Margaret Cole White, 88 years old, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Saturday,
September 1st at 1:50 am at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte after months of struggle
with congestive heart failure and declining health.
Margaret was born on November 23, 1929 at home in Rutherford County, NC to Frank
and Arrie Cole. She enjoyed growing up on the family farm with siblings Breece,
Lavonia and Ruth who preceded her in death. After completing Registered Nurses
training, she married Joseph Moore White Jr. on January 24,1953 and they enjoyed a
long and committed marriage until Joe’s death in 2002. Though Margaret had lived
away from Rutherfordton for many years, she was still deeply committed to her roots
and family there, visiting them often.
Margaret had a full and rich life in the Coulwood community of Charlotte. She was a
member of McQuay Presbyterian Church from 1958 until 1972 when the family joined
Paw Creek Presbyterian Church. She served her church faithfully over the years as a
Sunday school teacher, committee member, woman of the church, and an elder. She
was a loving, committed, and loyal friend to fellow church members, bridge club
members, neighbors, and community members. She was loved and respected by all
who knew her.
Margaret is survived by son, John White and daughter, Ann White Stalnaker,
grandchildren Adam White, Katie White, Claire Stalnaker and great-granddaughter,
Roselyn Charlotte Roberts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe M. White
Jr.
Margaret’s Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 6th at 2:00 pm at
Paw Creek Presbyterian Church ( 7400 Mt Holly Rd, Charlotte, NC 28214), officiated by
Pastor Elliot Hipp. Graveside service and family receiving of friends will take place
directly after the Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Margaret’s honor
can be made to the Paw Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund
