Rachel Broome Martin

Rachel Broome Martin, age 94, of Mount Holly, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Courtland Terrace in Gastonia.  She was born in Gaston County daughter of the late George G. and Della Mullis Broome.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers Carl Broome and Ray Broome.  She was a retired lab technician with Sodeyco Chemical and was a former member of Catawba Heights Baptist Church.  

She is survived by one son Ricky Martin and wife Jennie of Mount Holly; one daughter Ronda Barker and husband Benny of Denver; one brother Harold Dean Broome of Ruskin, Fla; one sister Muriel Featherstone of Belmont; six grandchildren Courtney, Stefanie, Jamie, Brad, Jerod, and Jennifer; and seven great-grandchildren.  

Mom enjoyed and loved her family.  We have many wonderful family memories that have touched our hearts, brought tears to our eyes, or made us laugh out loud.  Her journey here on earth was a long one, 94 years.  It is now complete. She is united with her precious mother, father and two loving brothers. Although we say goodbye with sad hearts, we know we were blessed to have her in our lives.  We loved her every day and now we will miss her every day.

Our heartfelt thanks go to Carillon Assisted Living, Courtland Terrace and Gaston Hospice who showed such compassion and concern for her care for many years. We wish God’s blessings on those who choose to care for our elderly and who make a difference in the quality of life they have.    

A graveside service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Martin will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 13 at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mount Holly with Pastor Micah Kearney officiating.  Memorials may be made to Hospice of Gaston County, P.O.
