Ruth Leatherman Eckard, 95, passed away on April 14, 2018 at the Robin Johnson Hospice House. She was born in Gaston County, daughter of the late L.G. and Nancy Shephard Leatherman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everette Eckard; four brothers; and four sisters. She was retired from Pharr Yarns, enjoyed bluegrass gospel music, and was a hardcore Atlanta Braves fan.
Ms. Eckard expressed an immense love for her family. She is survived by her children, Gene Eckard (Rachel), Peggy Ann Ward (Ernest), Sue Mauldin (Terry), and Terry Eckard (Tracy); eight grandchildren, Dawn Massie, Mellissa Robinson, Karen Kalinoski, Jean West, Beth Garris, Tim Brown, and Scott Brown; ten great-grandchildren, Jason Jackson, Trevor Robinson, Austin Robinson, Bradley Kalinoski, Kori West, Brayden Garris, Kenzie Garris, Sarah Cossette, Emma Brown, and Rylan Brown; and two great great-grandchildren, Hunter and Kaelyn Jackson.
A service to celebrate the life of Ms. Eckard will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, April 16, 2018 at the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mount Holly. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home.
