Sue Knowles Homesley, 80, of Stanley, died Tuesday, January 30 at her home. Born in Gaston County, raised in McAdenville, she was the daughter of the late David Brown Knowles, Sr. and Mable Rebecca Moore Knowles. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Alfred Smith Homesley, Sr., as well as her stepmother Lottie Lutz Knowles. Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter Karen H. Greeson and her husband Chet and a son Alfred Smith Homesley, Jr. "Smitty"; two granddaughters Courtney Smith Greeson and Lindsey Madison Greeson; three sisters Doris K. Smith, Lois K. Norman, and Martha K. Messer; two brothers Morris Gene Knowles and David B. Knowles, Jr. A service to celebrate her life will be held 3:00 pm Saturday, February 3, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church Stanley. Interment will follow the service in Stanley Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Gaston County, 258 E. Garrison Blvd, Gastonia, NC 28054 and/or to First Presbyterian Church, 512 Old NC 27, Stanley, NC 28164. The family would like to thank "God's special angels" from Gaston County Hospice and Palliative Care, for their love, compassion, and tender care shown to grandmother.
