Walter Edward Batchelor, 83, of Mount Holly, went home to meet the Lord on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Preston House Assisted Living in Charlotte. He was born in Gaston County, son of the late Christine Stroupe Batchelor and Nicholas Edward Batchelor. Walter was a Veteran of the United States Army. He worked as a Vice President and Systems Analyst at SAI and was a pioneer for computer programming. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Holly where he served as the Finance Committee Chairman. He coached First Methodist Little League Baseball. Walter was an avid runner and won many races in his age group and completed a marathon. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and motorcycle riding. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Freda Allen Batchelor; son Mark Batchelor (Christie); daughter Amy Batchelor Lynn (Shane); and his grandchildren Jacob and Anna Batchelor and A.J. and Zack Lynn. The family wishes to give a special thank you to the staff at Preston House for their kindness and compassion during Walter’s stay there. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Mount Holly with Rev. Dr. Kendell Cameron officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Children's Home Society, Greensboro or to First Baptist Church of Mount Holly Building Fund.
