William "Bill" McKinley Yelton, Jr, 97, of Gastonia, died Sunday, July 29, 2018 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. He was born in Cleveland County to the late Sally and William McKinley Yelton. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his first wife Avil Laura Jenkins Yelton; his second wife Cecilia Freeman Yelton, and four brothers. Bill was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran and Purple Heart recipient. Survivors include his daughters Doris Yelton Stafford and husband Richard J., and Janice Yelton Powell and husband David L.; grandchildren Jason B. Stafford, Michael J. Stafford, and Jaclyn P. Morris; great-grandchildren Mallory Catherine Stafford, Everett McKinley Stafford, and Zackery David Morris; two brothers, and one sister. A service to celebrate his life will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 2 in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mt. Holly. The family will greet guests for an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
