Wren Edward Almond, 87, of Stanley, died Wednesday, March 28. He was born September 27, 1930 in Stanly County a son of the late William Daniel and Mae Almond. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Steven Almond and a brother Jessie James Almond. He married the love of his life Frances Keever Almond on July 11, 1952. Wren was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged September 13, 1954. He retired from a career as a truck driver with Fredrickson after 37 years. He was a long-time member of Castanea Presbyterian Church. Survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife Frances; a son Thomas Wayne Almond and wife Gerri of Stanley; daughter in law Linda P. Almond of Stanley; and a grandson Mark Almond and wife Christie of Stanley. A graveside service with military honors will be held 3:00 pm Friday, March 30 at Castanea Community Church Cemetery, 14815 Lucia Riverbend Highway in Stanley officiated by Pastor Charles Barrier. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Castanea Community Church Cemetery Fund. Finally, the family would like to thank the staff at Stanley Total Living Center for their loving care of Wren during his stay.
