Abbie Hartis Obituary

Abbie Moore Hartis passed away at home on Dec.17, 2024, surrounded by her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Angie Moore; her sister, Vicki Brabham; and her husband, William “Bill” Hartis.  Abbie was born in Stanley, North Carolina, Nov. 25, 1942.  She graduated from Mount Holly High School in 1960, and attended Appalachian State University.  Abbie worked as a secretary at a variety of places, but found a second home as an executive secretary at Gaston County Dyeing Machine Company where she enjoyed working for the Craig family for forty-two years.  Abbie, affectionately known as Mamu, is survived by her daughter, Kyra Gunn, son-in-law Kent Gunn, grandchildren Sam, Will, and Daniel Gunn; brother Terry Moore (wife, Brenda); and many cousins, nieces, and nephews whom she considered immediate family. Abbie was known for her beauty and character. She loved to laugh and to make others laugh.  She formed lasting friendships with special ladies at every stage of her life. Abbie cherished time with her daughter and son-in-law, and her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and knowing they were happy. Abbie will be remembered for so many wonderful things:

baking her famous Abbie bread;

making everyone feel special, loved, and listened to;

writing and performing her annual Blabby Abbie Christmas poems during which each member of the family (65 at last count) received the perfect-for-them thrift store find;

smiling and being kind no matter what was going on in her life; and

praying fervently and beautifully for others.

Her faith in Christ was central to all of her decisions.  She enjoyed Christian fellowship at several churches during her life. Most recently she attended Central Church at Lake Park where everyone embraced her and made her feel so loved.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Central Church at Lake Park, 3624 Lake Park Rd., Indian Trail, North Carolina, 28079.  The family will receive friends at 10:00 am, and a service will be held at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at a later date at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mount Holly.
