Alonzo Mayfield Obituary

Alonzo Mayfield, age 82 passed away on November 10, 2021 at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia.  Alonzo was born in Rockholds, KY, son of Hallie Mayfield.  He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran who met his late wife Nina while stationed in North Carolina.  Alonzo was a devoted and hard working employee of the Charlotte Observer pressroom for 37 years, retiring as a supervisor in 2006.  Alonzo will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved his dogs dearly.  He was an avid outdoorsman who also enjoyed reading and playing cards.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Nina Mayfield, his daughter Denise Burgess, as well as his grandparents Elbert and Fanny Mayfield.  Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Patricia Goshorn, Tammy Laub (Kenneth), Lora Jones (Mike), and Timothy Mayfield; three half brothers: Joseph, Larry, and Gene Young, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.  All services will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital: www.st jude.org or to the Alzheimer's Association www.alz.org.  Arrangements are in the care of Woodlawn Funeral Home of Mount Holly.
