Barbara Jean (Deese) Marlowe

Barbara Deese Marlowe, age 74, of Charlotte, North Carolina, formerly of Marion South Carolina, died Friday, October 8, 2021 at Atrium Health Mercy in Charlotte.  Barbara, born on July 15, 1947 in Charlotte, was the daughter of the late Odis Ray and Gladys Horton Deese.  Barbara was a graduate of West Mecklenburg High School and Mars Hill University.  She was a retired school teacher of Special Needs Children with the Marion School District One in Marion, South Carolina.  Barbara was affectionately known by her family as 'Sis ', 'Aunt Barb' and 'Aunt BJ.'  Barbara was a member of Chapman Memorial Baptist Church, the Faithful Workers Sunday school class, substitute Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir and was a member of CHAPS, a senior citizen group.  A niece called her the "card queen" because Barbara had a card ministry, sending cards for all occasions, birthday, get-well, sympathy, anniversary and encouragement.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Odis and Gladys Deese; her husband, Gene Marlowe; her stepson, Tony Marlowe, and two brother-in-laws, Randolph Marlowe and Jimmy Marlowe.  Survivors include two brothers, Randy Deese of Charlotte, and Joel W. Deese, also of Charlotte; two sister-in-laws, Lois Marlowe of Lexington, South Carolina and Audrey Marlowe of Florence, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Visitation will be at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 375 Woodlawn Avenue, in Mount Holly on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., with a funeral service to immediately follow at 7:00, in the Woodlawn Chapel of the funeral home.  A private graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 14 at Devotion Gardens Cemetery in Mullins, South Carolina.  Memorials can be made to Mission City Church, 608 Valleydale Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28214 or to Marion Church of God, 1401 N.
