Betty Sipe (O'Shields) Norwood

Betty Jean Sipe O'Shields Norwood of Courtland Terrace Nursing Home, formerly of Mount Holly, was born on October 14, 1929, died on Friday December 19, 2025. She was the fifth of six children to the late Charles E. and Lula Broome Sipe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late spouses, Francis O'Shields and Harold Norwood; her brother, James Sipe of Belmont and Troy Sipe of Mount Holly; and her sister, Nancy Ruth Smith of Yulee, FL.

She is survived by her only child, Ms. Terry O'Shields Loftin of Belmont; her grandson, Jason Timothy Loftin of Belmont; her granddaughter, Amy Loftin Huntley (Brian) of Mount Holly; her great- grandchildren, Alexandra Loftin and Noah Huntley; her sister, Margaret Helen Hager of Mount Holly; her brother, Charles (Bub) Sipe of Mount Holly; and several nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved. Betty was active in the Eastern Star Belmont Chapter in the early 1960s. She also had a clown ministry with Gaston County Clown Arounds, particularly with Holy Angels Nursery Special Olympics. She retired from Adrian Madora Mill in the early 1990s. She served as a lunch-lady at South Point High School and then worked at Charlie's Drugs in Mount Holly where was known as a Charlie's Angels; and was the best orangeade maker in the county! She retired from Charlie's in December 2014. She was an active (charter) member of Second Baptist Church, Mount Holly and sang in the church choir. Betty was loved by everyone she met. She enjoyed every holiday with children, clowning, and giving everything she had to make others happy. She enjoyed dancing, gardening & being with her family. Betty was famous for her chocolate pies & banana pudding! No matter what time, day or night, she would fix you a meal and make sure you were full! Heaven is a little sweeter since Betty Jean made it home!

A service to celebrate Betty's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Second Baptist Church, Mount Holly. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, Charlotte. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church.
