Billy Mitchell Smith, 84, he went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. He was born in Gaston County, son of the late Frank A. Smith and Annie Mae Helms Smith Villarreal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Penelope Caldwell Smith; his daughter, Susan Smith; his stepfather, Rudy Villarreal, Sr.; and his siblings, John B. "Dickie" Smith, Ted A. Smith, and Sarah Smith Bolin. Mr. Smith was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran.
Mr. Smith enjoyed the outdoors and liked to travel. He especially liked going to the beach and the mountains. He loved going to church at any opportunity and served as the former director of Senior Saints, was a former Deacon at Community Pentecostal Center, Stanley, and was a current, devoted member of H.IS. Frontline Ministries. His humbleness, quick witted spirit, love for the Lord, and his enjoyment of the company of family and friends will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 25 years, Barbara Ann Burns Smith; his children, Michael Smith (Shelly), Mark Smith, Steven Smith (Krista), Jessica Smith Blackwell (Henry), and DeAnna Whitlock (Bill); 9 grandchildren, his siblings, Rudy "Chuck" Villarreal, Jr. (Lynn) and Myra Villarreal Harrington (Paul); and a number of nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Smith will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2025, at Community Pentecostal Center, Stanley. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the church. Burial, with military honors, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain.
