Carol Ann (Weaver) Smith

Carol Ann Weaver Smith, 79, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at her home, after a long battle with lung cancer. She was born in Richmond County, NC, daughter of the late Jessie Thomas Weaver and Ruby Lee Hunt, stepdaughter of Harry E. Smith. Mrs. Smith was raised by the late Charles H. Baldwin and Montie Baldwin. Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband, John David Smith; and her son, Donald Eugene Stephens.

She enjoyed politics, was active with the Democratic Party, and once ran for School Board. She was president of the union at the Owens, IL. Plastic Mill. She loved NASCAR racing, the Duke Blue Devils, Michael Jordan, and the South Point Red Raiders, where her husband had coached football. She also enjoyed cooking and baking.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her grandson, Johnathan Eugene Stephens; her sisters, Debra Holland and Gail Crosier; and her nieces, Nicole McGlothlin, Shelby Holland, and Morgan Crosier.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Smith will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mount Holly. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
