Carolyn Caldwell Obituary

Carolyn Cope Caldwell, 91, went to be with the Lord on February 26, 2025. She was a native of Gaston County., raised in Ranlo, born to W.H. Cope and Bertie Holland Fisher Cope on May 30, 1933. She married Bobby Elliott Caldwell on April 16, 1955. They had 3 children Michael Elliott Caldwell married to Vicki Speas Caldwell, Anne Marie Caldwell Abernathy married to Brian R. Abernathy, and youngest son Mark Robert Caldwell.

Carolyn was a member of Maylo Methodist Church. After she married Bobby, they moved to Stanley and joined First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, the Youth Group, and was a member of the Women's Circle Groups. She and Bobby were heavily involved in the scouting program sponsored by the church.

She began her career as an X-Ray technician at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. She later was employed as an Expanded Food Nutrition Aide for the NC State Extension service. She then became a substitute teacher for Gaston County Schools.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband Bobby, her parents, a sister Margaret Cope Henderson, and brother in law Floyd T. Henderson. She is survived by her brother Richard O. Cope, and his wife Judy Price Cope, her children Mike, Anne, and Mark, 4 grandchildren Holland Caldwell Hamrick (Lance), Micah L. Caldwell (Heather), Josh A. Abernathy (Rebecca), Seth M. Abernathy (Chelsea), 4 great grandchildren Adler C. Abernathy, Sawyer W. Abernathy, Sterling Caldwell, Evie Abernathy. Carolyn was blessed with many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Kidney Fund or the Crohns and Colitis Foundation. A graveside service will be held on Monday March 3rd at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery with Pastor Mark Etchison officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 - 6 p.m. Monday at the home of Brian and Anne Abernathy 1128 Mayberry Road, Dallas, NC
