Cecil Ballard Obituary

Cecil Lee Ballard, age 92, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at his home. He was born and raised in Lincoln County, son of the late Russell and Lucille Ballard. Mr. Ballard was a Veteran of the U.S. Army.

Cecil attended Gardner Webb College and Limestone College and went on to become a devoted Baptist minister for over 40 years. He served several congregations as a lead pastor as well as an interim pastor with unwavering faith and dedication where he was able to touch countless lives with his sermons and pastoral care. Throughout his life, Cecil received numerous recognitions and awards. His legacy and impact on those he served will be remembered fondly.

In his free time, Cecil enjoyed fishing, gardening, working puzzles, golfing, and spending time with his family. He was an active member of his community......Cecil will be remembered most notably for his devotion to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and as a man who led countless souls to the Lord. He will be remembered by his grandchildren for his famous quote: "Wisdom- knowing what's right...and doing it". He was very talented with animal sounds that always entertained the grands and the great grands.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 72 years Catherine Helton Ballard. His children: Cathy Gilbert (BJ), Sheila Hord (David), Dara Ballard (Patti), all of Stanley, as well as Janet Roberts (Chris) of Shelby, NC. He was a proud grandfather to Justin Gilbert (Camille), Jason Gilbert (Madison), Andrew Hord (Donna), Brandon Ballard (Monica), Ryan Ballard (Catherine), Tara Hayes (Dustin), and Nathan Roberts (Cagney). He also had 14 adorable great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Verlene Paxton, and her husband Ken of Lexington, SC, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Faith Baptist Church in Iron Station. The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. on Monday, also at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
