Charles McDowell (Mackie) Helton, 83, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at his home. He was born in Gaston County to the late Robert Jackson Helton, Sr., and Ethel Elizabeth Ballard Helton. Mackie loved his Lord and was a lifetime member of Faith Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served on various committees.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, Mr. Helton is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sybil LaRue Rozzelle Helton; his children, Carla Helton Crawley, Marcus Duane Helton (Lynn), and Kerry Helton Painter (Mark); his grandchildren, Seth Wade Crawley (Merritt), Kathryn Elizabeth Crawley, Jordan McDowell Helton, Sara Rebecca Helton, Kendall Preston, and Carson Preston (Madison); his great-grandchildren, Holland and Anderson; his siblings, Robert Helton, Jr., David Helton (Diane), Billy Helton (Carolyn), and Etta Shanholtz (Bob); and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family was extremely important to him.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Helton will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 23, 2024, at Faith Baptist Church, Iron Station. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive guests at the church from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
