In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Peggy Hawkins and Rebecca Threadgill. Charlie was a North Carolina Army National Guard Veteran.

Charlie located to Charlotte, NC upon graduating from Western Carolina University. He married his sweetheart, Beada Huntley, on July 26, 1958. He also worked part-time as a bus driver for Trailways for a few years. From Wilson Middle School, he moved to Harding High School as a driver’s ed teacher. He retired in 1991 after 34 years of teaching in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.

Charlie and his family were members of Mulberry Baptist Church where he could always be seen giving everyone a warm welcome. He dearly loved his Sunday School class.

Charlie enjoyed many blessings in life but the ones he enjoyed the most were keeping his yard meticulously manicured, going hiking in the mountains, camping, being in charge of the ticket sales for the high school football and basketball games, playing tennis, eating good food (especially homemade ice cream), reading David Baldacci and James Patterson books, and most importantly…spending time with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Beada Huntley Turnmire; his daughter, Tara Lucas and her husband, Steve; his grandchildren, Evan Lucas and Emily Lucas; his nieces, Lisa Stahl, Debbie Threadgill, and Katrina Crooks and her husband, Jason; his nephews, Bud Freeman and his wife, Mary, and Alex Freeman and his wife, Cheri; and his close cousin, Marlene Hartley and a number of other cousins.
