Charlie Murphy Rich

Charlie Murphy Rich, 77, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at his home, 121 Devine St., Stanley, NC. He was born in New Hanover County, son of the late Murphy and Carrie Wheeler Rich. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Pat Baxley; and his brothers, Bobby Rich, Bill Rich.

Mr. Rich served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps (1968-1972), honorably defending our freedom during the Vietnam War. He was a longtime member and Deacon of Mariposa Baptist Church and was retired from Duke Energy.

Mr. Rich is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Crisp Rich; his son, Tim Rich (Tara) of Gastonia; his daughter, Carrie Rich Foxx (Jeff) of Conover; his five most valued treasures, his granddaughters, Murphy, Caroline, Mary Kate, Madi, and Merida; his brother, Tommy Rich of San Franscisco, CA; his sister, Linda Mundy of Pine Mtn. Valley, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Rich will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Mariposa Baptist Church, Stanley, NC. Pastor Steve Johnson will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mount Holly. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home.
