Cherie Annette McKinney lost her courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, August 19, 2021. Cherie was born October, 17, 1960 in Mecklenburg County, daughter of William Gary and Peggy Richmond McKinney.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her daughter, Samantha Blair Fox; her sister, Anita McKinney Waldman; her brother, William Scott McKinney; her step-mother, Rebecca (Becky) McKinney; her step-brother, Roger Duncan; her fur baby, Dixie; and many stray cats.
Cherie graduated as a registered nurse in 2010 from Queens University of Charlotte nursing program. During her career, she work for several nursing homes, primarily with quadriplegic patients, providing in-home nursing care. Her real passion was pediatric nursing which enabled her to provide loving care to children with birth defects and special needs. She worked for Thrive Skilled Pediatric Care, Gastonia, NC, until her cancer diagnosis in 2020.
Cherie was very compassionate with a huge, loving heart. She was always warm and welcoming, greeting you with a big smile and her infectious laugh. Cherie was very creative and loved crafts of any kind, cooking - especially baking, but most of all she loved to be outside mowing, gardening, and taking care of her yard full of plants and flowers. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Levine Cancer Center and Hospice & Palliative Care of the Charlotte Region.
