Christine Eller Obituary

Christine A. Eller (84) went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the evening of May 14, 2024 surrounded by her loving family at the Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC.

Christine was the daughter of Ralph and Evelyn Agner and was a native of Rowan County and lived in the small town of Spencer, NC. She was a graduate of Spencer High School, Class of 1957, and met her future husband, Larry Eller, during Study Hall in 1954. As the years unfolded they became what was known in those days as a “Steady Couple”, which culminated in their marriage on July 22, 1962 at the Oakdale Baptist Church in Spencer.
They then moved to the beautiful little town of Belmont, NC where Larry was employed at the Duke Power Allen Steam Station.

One of the greatest accomplishments of their life was the birth of their two children, William Christopher (Kit) Eller, 1965, and Shannon Suzanne Eller, 1967.  Christine was in ways a shy woman, and would not even drive a car until it became absolutely necessary for her to provide transportation for Kit to kindergarten. The Ellers lived in the small community of Green Acres.  There were many children close by, which led to Christine becoming the unofficial “School Bus Driver” of the community, often transporting up to eight children to the Belmont Central Elementary School.  One thing led to another from there.  She first served as a part-time Teacher’s Aide that ultimately led her to her true calling of a career as a Full Time Teacher Assistant. She served the Gaston County School System in this role for nearly three decades.  As a result of this long career, she often had second generation children of the children who had been in her classroom, years previously.  This brought great joy to Christine.

One of the greatest gifts of Christine’s life was the birth of her four grandchildren - Jesse (Daniel) and Max Lane (Makayla), and Madison White (Matt) and Monica Eller.  She was extremely proud of them all and enjoyed watching them grow from babies to young  adults. They were indeed the Sunshine of her life!

Larry and Christine have worshiped at South Point Baptist Church in Belmont since 1977 and during that time have been the beneficiaries of several Ministers and numerous Sunday School Teachers who have faithfully and sacrificially broken the bread of life to them in ways that enriched their lives forever in the “Good News”.  In addition, they’ve developed many cherished, life-long friends during their time at South Point Baptist Church.
Christine was predeceased in death by her parents, sister in-law Judy Agner and brother in-law Don Graham.

Those left cherish her memory - her husband of 62 years Larry,  Son,  Kit (Amy), Daughter, Shannon Hinson (Bucky), Sister, Sandra,  Brothers, Ralph (Phyllis), Tommy (Nancy) and Mike (Judy) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at South Point Baptist Church, 124 Horsley Ave, Belmont, NC 28012 on Saturday May 18, 2024 from 1:30 - 3:00 PM with the funeral service to follow. Pastor Mike Phillips and Pastor Jimmy Hilton will officiate her service.

The South Point Baptist Church Benevolent Fund (or the Charity of your choice) is suggested for those wishing to make a gift in memory of Christine.
