Clay Rogers Heady, age 78, passed away on Monday December 8, 2025 at The Robin Johnson Hospice House. He was born in Montgomery County Kansas, son of the late Bill Heady and Lucille Kindrick Heady. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters: Crystal Proman and Connie Layton.
Clay earned his bachelor’s in mechanical engineering at Kansas State University and was a proud Wildcat for life. After graduating, he married Ruth Ann and moved all around the country with her, raising three children and loving many pets. He used his excellent skills as a mechanical engineer to keep many chemical plants going. His last employer asked him to retire early due to their finances but then had to hire him right back as a contractor because they couldn't do without him.
Clay was a fan of science fiction and crime procedural shows, but also liked Downton Abbey and other softer shows he’d watch with Ruth Ann. He is the reason two of his children are geeks, but he is also the reason all three have good lives.
Clay was a wonderful father, husband and provider for his family. After he lost his father at an early age, he was determined to work hard so his family would not experience hardship and have plentiful lives. Always there to support his family and friends, he was very loved by them. He also gave back to the community, volunteering and donating blood.
He is now with our Lord and is being met by family (humans, dogs, and cats) in Heaven.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 52 years Ruth Ann Heady, his children: Natalie Bryant (Jason), Heather Heady and Mark Heady; his grandchildren: Benjamin Bryant and Lillian Bryant, as well as his niece Angel Raffety.
A small family service will be held at Cooks Memorial Presbyterian Church in Charlotte on Friday December 12, 2025. If you would like to attend, please contact the Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to The American Red Cross, or to The Salvation Army.
