Doug laid his armor down and pass through the portals of Glory on Saturday, November 29, 2025.
Leaving behind his wife, Ann Wright Ewing of 64 years; daughter, Leah Hawes of Belmont, daughter, Laura Ewing of Mount Holly; 3 grandsons, Robert Hawes of Mount Holly, Jason Hawes (Abby) of Gastonia, and Bailey Hawes of Belmont; a granddaughter, Taylor Brooks of Mount Holly; a great-grandson, Brody Hawes of Mount Holly; a sister, Kathy Graves of Belmont; a sister-in-law, Peggy Ewing of Belmont; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death are his father, Robert L. Ewing, his mother, Evelyn R. Ewing; his brother, Clarence "Bob" Ewing; and son-in-law, Lester B. Hawes.
Doug graduated from Belmont High School in 1954 and worked various jobs. He was drafted in 1958. He spent two years serving his Country in the Army which included 12 months in Korea. Doug was the credit manager for Sterchi's Furniture for 2 years and then for H&S Lumber for 26 years. He retired from Diamond Hill Lumber in 1996. After Ann retired in 1997, they traveled to many different states throughout the country. They were members of the North Carolina Baptist Lay Foundation for over 30 years. They served together in over 120 churches in 7 states. Doug served as the lay coordinator for 10 years and led Vacation Bible Schools in Vermont and Alaska. He also served four years on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina State Southern Baptist Convention. He also served on a mission trip to Manaus, Brazil. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Belmont, NC.
His passion in life was witnessing for the Lord and being a role model for his family.
A service to celebrate Doug's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Friendship Baptist Church, Belmont, NC. Rev. Jan Deans will officiate. Burial, with military honors will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Belmont, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, at the church.
