Clyde "Buck" Hatley, age 87, passed away on Friday August 26, 2022. He was born in Cabarrus County and was the son of the late Claude and Mary Hatley. Buck taught History for 28 years at Holbrook School where he also coached numerous sports teams for many years. He was a member at the former McAdenville Methodist Church and also enjoyed researching family ancestry and composing family trees. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Dorcas Hatley, a granddaughter Charly Smith, two brothers: Samuel and Gene Hatley, and a sister Gwendola "Duck" Hornesby. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter Sharon Fowler (Henry III), a son James Bartley Hatley; a grandson Henry Fowler IV, his nieces: Teresa Brewbaker, Claudia Cantrell, Christy Wilson, Sandy Sossamon, and a great-grandson Caleb Smith. A service to celebrate Buck's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday September 4, 2022, in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday also at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Gaston Hospice: 258 E. Garrison Blvd. Gastonia, NC 28054, or to Robin Johnson Hospice House: 5005 Shepards Way Dr. Dallas, NC 28034. Arrangements are in the care of Woodlawn Funeral Home of Mount Holly.
