Darlene Bishop Cope, 74, of Belmont, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. She was born in Mecklenburg County to the late Hugh Calvin Bishop and Mae Vivian Summey Bishop. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold James Cope, as well as four siblings, Troy Calvin Bishop, Ted Lewis Bishop, Joe Franklin Bishop, and Betty Bishop Hollifield. Darlene was a longtime member of Belmont Foursquare Church where she implemented the card ministry, encouraging people by sending well wishes. She loved visiting Oak Island with her sister Tonda, her happy place. Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Michael Harold Cope and Steven Brian Cope; her siblings, Jerry Keith Bishop and his wife, Shirley, Tonda Bishop Mathis and her husband, John, Charles Lee Bishop, and Sylvia Bishop Hellard; her grandson, Lucas Michael Cope; her special niece, Debbie Matz; and her longtime friend and caregiver, Bunnie Felton, the Lucy to Darlene's Ethel. The family will greet guests from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2022 at Belmont Foursquare Church, 8 Elizabeth Street, Belmont. A service to celebrate Darlene's life will be held immediately following at 2:00, also at the church. Interment will conclude at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mount Holly. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Belmont Foursquare Church.
