David Lee Durham

David Lee Durham, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2024, at the age of 80. Born on October 26, 1944, in Newport News, Virginia, David lived a life full of faith, family, hard work, and friendships that touched the lives of many.

David was a proud graduate of NC State University, where he worked to pay his way through college and earned his degree in Mathematics. His strong analytical skills and dedication to his work led him to a successful career in information technology. Over the years, David contributed to significant projects at major companies, including Western Electric, Lucent Technologies, IBM, and Bank of America.

Beyond his career, David had many passions that brought joy to his family and friends. He was a devoted follower of Christ, a role model in his faith, and cherished his family deeply. Known lovingly as "Papa" to his grandchildren, Will and Gracie, David delighted in every moment spent with them. His passion for tools and fixing things made him the go-to problem solver in the family, and his lively conversations brought him many friends, especially at his local YMCA. A familiar face at the Olive Garden, David enjoyed sharing meals and laughter with friends, always ready to report the day’s rainfall to the hundredth of an inch—a testament to his meticulous and endearing nature.

David is survived by his loving wife, Judy, his son Daniel, daughter-in-law Jessica, grandchildren Will and Gracie, and his siblings: sisters Norma, Jolyn, and Jean, and brothers Jim, John, and Ralph.

A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Saturday November 2nd in honor of David's life at Stanley Pentecostal Holiness Church in Stanley, NC with visitation beginning at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Carolina Caring, formerly known as Gaston Hospice, in memory of David's compassionate spirit and love for his community.

David’s legacy of faith, kindness, patience, and genuine care for others will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
