David Roden Hutto, 84, of Stanley, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at his home. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama, son of the late James B. Hutto and Trevah Roden Hutto. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Betty James Hutto. David, known as "Hoppy" since high school at Ensley High in Birmingham, AL, was a loving husband and wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Along with his love and compassion for others, he was genuine, kind, thoughtful, honest, and witty. He enjoyed small engine repair, traveling, family time, breakfast with his buddies, and his yearly high school and family reunions. He was an avid runner before it became popular.
David will be sorely missed but elated to be reunited with the love of his life, Betty, and grateful for eternal life thru Christ Jesus!
Mr. Hutto is survived by his daughters, Keitha B. Zittle (Rick) and Kimberly A. Hutto Rhyne (Steven); grandchildren Zachary D. Brown and wife, Ashlee, Rachel E. Brown, Rebecca B. Nance and husband, Greg, Caleb M. Rhyne and wife, Jenn, and Emily A. Rhyne; great-grandchildren, Macie Brown, Silas Brown, Boaz Brown, Isaiah Nance, Keely Holland, and Grayson Rhyne; his sister, Elizabeth Rutland; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the care and compassion provided by Mr. Hutto's caregivers, Michelle Barbee, Elizabeth Harvey, Crystal Ghorley, Renee Hart, Carlee Jones, Crystina Simon, Tammy White, Lisa Duncan, Angie Herron, Sara Howell, Amber Thomason, Earleen Murphy, and Gina Messer. In addition, the family would like to express their appreciation to Hospice & Palliative Care Lincoln County for the love and care shown to David during his time of sickness, especially to his nurse, Betty Burleson.
A private family service to celebrate the life of Mr. Hutto will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly. A public interment will follow the service at approximately 1:45 p.m. at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mount Holly.
