Obituary

Donald Allen Scott, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at his home in Linwood, NC, where he lived with his great-granddaughter, Sierra Misenheimer (Joe). He was born in Pulaski County, Indiana, son of the late Harry Scott and Mildred Hemig Scott. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mae Belle Holhouser Scott; his daughter, Linda Nichols; his son-in-law, James Lamar Nichols; his great-grandson, Jeremy Hester; and his brothers, Calvin Scott and Harvey Scott.

Donald was a proud veteran who loved his country. He served in the Vietnam and Korean Wars. He was in the United States Army, Air Force, National Guard, and Merchant Marines. His awards include the Vietnam Service Medal, the Air Force Longevity Award, and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a retired over-the-road truck driver with D.M Bowman, worked as an overnight security guard with WSOC-TV news station, and was a shuttle bus driver for the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. He loved spending time with his family, especially his three great-great-grandchildren (Gracie, Paisley, and Lucas) who were the apple of his eye.

Those left to cherish his memories include his son, Joe R. Short (Rita); his grandchildren, Richard Abernathy (Melissa), Michelle Christenbury (Tim), Kim Pearson, Scott Short (Dana), Pam Yager (Vic), James Nichols (Bert), Gary Nichols, Mandee Coleman (Johnny), Joe Short, and Ann Short; his great-grandchildren, Sierra (Joe), Thomas, Kelly C., Colin, Abby, John, Adam, Gracie, Zack, Lindsay, Jesse (Kayla), Natalie, Chelsea (Seth), Blake, Brandon, and Kelly H.; his great-great-grandchildren, Gracie Mae, Paisley, Lucas, Chris (Shellie), Brody, Lucas Y., Roman, Lyla, and Isla; his great-great-great-grandchildren, Larissa, Riley, and CJ; his brothers, Emerson Scott (Cheryl), Kenneth Scott (Jane), and Edward Scott (Joyce), and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will greet guests from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Woodlawn Funeral Home of Mount Holly. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Scott will begin at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mount Holly.
