Doris Harper Sossamon, 83, passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021 at her home. She was born in Mecklenburg County. She was the daughter of the late Lonnie and Irene Harper. In addition, she was preceded in death by her biological mother, Lucy Harper; her previoius husband, Edwin Bolius, Jr.; step-daughter, Marie Turnipseed; step-son, Edwin Bolius, III; and her step-granddaughter, Shelly Sossamon.
Mrs. Sossamon is survived by her husband, Donald Ray Sossamon; her children, Carmen Andrews and spouse, Sean, and Jennifer Gibson; her step-children, Dawn Price, Cathy Jones and spouse, Robin, Tommy Sossamon and spouse, Tammy, and W. Dale Sossamon and spouse, Kathy; grandchildren Arin, Alexis, Kylee, and Lacy Andrews, Cami Gibson, and Bailie Gibson and his wife, Makenzie; step-grandchildren, Nathan Turnipseed, Brooklyn Price, Terri Leann Burleson, and Lee Sossamon; great-grandchild, Novah Andrews; step-great-grandchildren, Bristol Gray, Caydence Trollinger, Journey Sossamon, and Bryan Fore; beloved family from previous marriage, Chris Bolius and spouse, Lori, Sabra McElveen, Tripp Bolius, Megan Lollar, Christine Bolius, Blake Bolius, Jessica McElveen, Bently, Ky'Onna, Xavier, and Devaughn; and special friend and caregiver, Ethel Combs.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 30, 2021 at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Sossamon will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at the Woodlawn Chapel. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mount Holly.
