Eddie Stewart, passed away at Caromont Regional Medical Center on March 26,2025. Eddie was the son of the late Donald Stewart and Evelyn Weaver Harrell. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his stepfather H.C. Harrell.
Eddie Stewart was a very well-known name in the USSSA Softball League. He started umping softball for the Athletic Department in Gastonia many years ago. He was also inducted in the SSAA Umpire Hall of Fame on March 2, 2002. You could also find Eddie playing in pick up softball leagues as well as church leagues for most of his life. Eddie was very athletic and also instilled that in his children. He taught them at a very young age about sports and they all followed in his footsteps with the love of sports. Eddie was a jack of all trades, yet painting was his specialty. His stepdad H.C. taught him the trade when he was 16 years old. He shared his painting skills and many other fix-it skills at First United Methodist Church of Stanley, who was lucky to have him. He and Jan have been members there for many years. Mr. Eddie will be remembered by all the children of the church as well for being the "candy guy" who loved all the kids.
Eddie loved his family and grandkids. Those who are left to cherish his memories include his sweet wife Jan Grissop Stewart, and his children Brian Stewart, Darrell Stewart (Kim), Lynn Stewart Ellis (Derrick), and Michael Stewart.
Grandchildren whom he adored, Lance and Landyn and Leithan Stewart, Daniel Heath, Marty Tessnear, Auston Melton, Colby and Christopher McSwain; two great grandchildren: Colton and Connor Melton.
