Edward Clayton Sutton, 72, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024, at his home. He was born in Guilford County, son of the late Edward Marvin Sutton and Grace Elizabeth Neely Sutton. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Blenda Hoyle Sutton; his sisters, Olivia Sutton, Betty Sutton, and Debbie Sutton; his nieces, Jodi Bowman, Penny Eaker, Dawn Moss, and Carol Cook ,numerous great great nieces and nephews and his fur-baby, Harley.
Mr. Sutton was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He had served as the Chef de Guard of the North Carolina 40/8 as well as the 40/8 Voiture 1544 Gaston County. He also served as the NC American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame Commander, as well as the Commander of the 5th Division and 22nd District. He served as Commander, as Finance Officer, and Membership Chairman of the Belmont American Legion Post 144. One of his many passions, was to help with the American legion Baseball team, The Gaston Braves. You could find Mr. Sutton, tinkering with his vintage 1967 GMC truck on most days. He often loved to watch Nascar, in which he always rooted for his top two drivers Tony Stewart and Kevin Harvick. He loved going to the Nascar races just as much as watching them.
Mr. Sutton's family would like to extend their gratitude to the people who cared for Mr. Sutton, his Oncologist- Dr. Boateng, Atrium Infusion Center, and Via Health Partners-Hospice. These folks were such a blessing to our family.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Sutton will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly, NC. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
