Edwin James Crisp, Sr.

Edwin James Crisp, Sr of Stanley, North Carolina left his earthly body for his Heavenly home on Saturday, February 1, 2025. Born in Bryson City, North Carolina on August 23, 1933. The son of the late Lonnie and Essie Crisp. He moved to Gaston County as a child and graduated from Lowell High School. His football scholarships enabled him to further his education to Gardner Webb and Western Carolina University. He taught school one year in Charlotte, North Carolina before his 40-year career at Gaston County Dyeing Machine company. He was a long-time member at First Baptist Church of Stanley where he held many offices including deacon and teaching boys Sunday school. He enjoyed many years in the Stanley Optimist Club. He loved to play golf with his buddies and loved gardening. He was a sweet and kind man and loved spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Marie Martin, Vernon Crisp, Reva Braswell; his son-in-law, Bob Smith; and his loving wife of 56 years, Peggy Penley Crisp. Edwin is survived by his wife of twelve years, Maxcine Rickman Crisp; his daughter, Melissa Smith; his sons, Jim Crisp (Susan), and Phillip Crisp (Eva); his stepchildren, Janet Somey (Kelly) and Jeff Rickman (Kathryn); his four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. There will be a small family and friends graveside service on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 11:00 am at Gaston Memorial Park on New Hope Road, Gastonia. The family will receive friends at the home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Samaritan’s Purse to help the victims of his beloved Western North Carolina mountains.
