Eleanor Hope (Robinson) Abernathy

Eleanor Hope Robinson Abernathy, 85, passed away at her home on Sunday April 26, 2026. She was born in Red Springs in Robeson County NC. She was the 7th of 10 children to the late John Franklin and Clara Edwards Robinson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son Tracy Wayne Abernathy, her husband Hubert Henry Abernathy, three sisters Juanita Hovis, Carolyn Kiser, Vivian Lineberger, two brothers Bobby Robinson (died at age 4), Randy Robinson, and a brother in law Neal Ritchie. She was a graduate of Stanley High School. She was co owner of Abernathy Auto Sales in Stanley and worked for years as a title specialist and notary for Charlotte Auto Auction and Adesa Charlotte Auto Auction. 

Those left to cherish her memory include her two sons Steven Hubert Abernathy and wife Donna of Charlotte, Ronald Franklin Abernathy of Stanley, three grandchildren Chase Abernathy and wife Cassie of Crouse, Chelsea Turpin and husband Justin of Dallas, Sara Abernathy of Denver, seven great grandchildren Cole, Kalli, and Clay Abernathy, Porter, Annie and Boone Turpin, Micah Moody, four sisters Faye Heller (Warren), Patsy Ritchie, Geraldine "Deanie" Morris (Joel), Judy Abernathy (Harry), a sister in law Mary Robinson, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Eleanor was a life long member of Christ's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stanley. She loved her church family and friends intensely. Those who knew her knew that she was a very strong willed and independent lady who lived her life as she wished. She will be greatly missed.

The family will greet guests from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. on Thursday April 30 at Christ's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 203 South Main Street, Stanley. A funeral service to celebrate her life conducted by Reverend Wesley Frye will follow at 1:30p.m. Interment will follow the service in Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Micky Lineberger, Dr. Edward Lineberger, Rick Hovis, Brian Robinson, Landon Dixon, and Justin Turpin.
