Elfrieda Sue (Young) Thomas

Elfrieda Sue Young Thomas, 79, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023. She was born in Mecklenburg County, daughter of the late James Edward Young and Hazel Louzell Crisp Young. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Rufus Thomas; her sisters, Annette Painter and Rena Jonas; and her grandson, Hayden Garrett Ward.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by her daughters, Teresa Ann Ward, Cynthia Gail Gantt (Michael), and Tina Louise Smith (Robert); her grandchildren, Brandon Blankenship (Misty), Christian Haskins (Kevin), Misty Thompson, Amy Stinchcomb (Kyle), and Chandler Beheler (Kelsey); her great-grandchildren, Elijah Grigg, Hayden Blankenship, Cameron Blankenship, Brandon Blankenship, Kaleb Blankenship, Micah Blankenship, Serenity Blankenship, Jordan Peche, Lilly Peche, Destin Faile, Lenox Schlaefer, Tyler Haskins, Blakeley Beheler, Willa James Beheler; her siblings, Carol Langley and Roy Young; her extended family; and a number of nieces, nephews, and very close friends.

Mrs. Thomas' family will greet guests from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Catawba Heights Baptist Church, Belmont. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Thomas will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, also at the church. A private family burial will follow.
