Ernest Joseph Heffner, 73, of Dallas, NC, passed away on November 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at Atrium Health, Charlotte NC.
Ernest was born on October 20, 1951, to the late parents of Ernest and Bertha Heffner, in Lincolnton, NC. He married Etta Morgan Heffner, the love of his life for 51 years, who survives him. Ernest is also survived by son, Joseph Heffner, daughter, Ashley (Jason) Long, grandchildren, Jaley Long and Amanda Long, siblings, Jerry (Mig) Heffner, Mary Heffner and many nephews and nieces. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Junie B White, Robert Heffner, Dorothy Tilley, and Bertha Mae Heffner.
Ernest was employed by Summey Building Systems and Hayes Fluid Control in Dallas, NC. Ernest was known for his quiet demeanor, strong will and love for his family and the outdoors. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all his life experiences: he could fix or build anything. In typical Ernest fashion for his love of nature and simplicity, there will be an outdoor graveside service to celebrate his life for friends and family on Friday November 15, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mount Holly. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 1:45 P.M. on Friday at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
