Mrs. Marietta Estelle Ward Moore, 87, formerly of Mt. Holly, passed away peacefully May 11, 2021, at Novant Heath Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Walker Moore. Mrs. Moore was a native of Gaston County, daughter of the late Jasper Kenneth Ward and Ruby Smith Ward, graduate of Mt. Holly High School and Appalachian State University where she received her teaching degree. She taught second grade for 34 years, most of which at Thomasboro Elementary School in Charlotte, where she was known to generations of children as Mrs. E. Moore. She was an avid gardener, taking pride in her colorful yard, an accomplished baker, especially noted for her delicious pound cakes, and she enjoyed beach trips to Oak Island (nee Long Beach) NC, where she spent much time with her beloved husband and family, and church friends. Mrs. Moore was an active and faithful member for many years at Goshen Presbyterian Church of North Belmont, NC, serving as Sunday School teacher to all ages, a leader in the Women In the Church, and diligent participant of pastoral search committees. Mrs. Moore also attended and had many beloved friends at Garden Memorial Presbyterian Church of Charlotte.
Survivors include a daughter, Amy Elizabeth Medlin and husband Charles of Monroe NC, a son, John W. Moore, II and wife Kelly of Charlotte, sister Patricia Ward Crisp of Mt. Holly, granddaugters, Elizabeth and Amanda, and great-granddaughter Jordyn, and many nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Moore will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mount Holly. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
