Frances H. Bowden went Home to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, November 23, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Rev. John Hendrix Bowden. She is survived by her daughter, Sheron B. Lowe of Charlotte, and Max Bowden and his wife, April of Belmont. She is also survived by two grandsons, Matthew Lowe of Charlotte and Johnathon Lowe of Mint Hill. A great-grandson, Matthew Lowe, a great-granddaughter, Mattison Lowe both of Charlotte; and close family friends, Donnie Lowe of Charlotte and Brenda Bowden of Holly Springs.
Frances was born on October 11, 1931, the only child of Herman M. Haynes and Ella M. Haynes. Her grandparents were Rev. Francis Haynes and Mae W. Haynes of Asheville. She also had several uncles and aunts that influenced her life. In her younger days, she played basketball, volleyball, and attended church regularly. Frances and her husband-to-be met at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where they were both preparing for full-time religious service. She was secretary for the head of the music department. After their marriage she helped John in the churches he served wherever she was needed, whether it was singing in the choir, playing the piano or organ, planning social events for Women on Missions, GA's, YWA, or directing choirs. John and Frances enjoyed traveling together to all 50 states and many foreign nations.
A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia, NC. Memorials may be made to the John and Frances Bowden Scholarship Fund, c/o First Baptist Church Mount Holly, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
